Pakistan Wins Top International Award in Fight Against Tuberculosis
Pakistan has bagged international acclaim for the work done in combating tuberculosis, receiving the highest international award in the field.
- Awards for outstanding contributions made to TB control efforts went to Dr Razia Fatima from Pakistan and Dr Jane Carter from the United States.
- The award was conferred at a ceremony in Bali, Indonesia, where the World Conference on Lung Health took place and thousands of medical professionals and scientists were in attendance.
- Dr Razia Fatima, who is the chief researcher and National Coordinator of Pakistan’s Common Management Unit (CMU) for TB, received the award on Tuesday.
This award is historic because it marks the first time a Pakistani national has been awarded this honour. The work done by Dr Razia has not only brought her international acclaim but also led to her recent selection to chair the TB section of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.
This important and good news was welcomed by the scientific community and Pakistani nationals in Indonesia, who appreciated Dr Razia’s achievements and Pakistan’s efforts to address global health challenges.
