Chicken Steak in Mushroom Sauce

Enjoy a scrumptious meal at home through this delicious dish of chicken steak with creamy mushroom sauce. It is absolutely sure to please you, perfect for dinner parties or an evening in your own house.

Ingredients

For Chicken Steak:

 2 boneless chicken breasts
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt

For Mushroom Sauce:

 1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 cup mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 cup chicken broth

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley for garnish

 Chicken preparation:

  • Place chicken breasts in between two plastic wraps; pound them to have an equal thickness.
  • Rub both the sides of the chicken using olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Letting it rest for about 10-15 minutes.

Chicken cooking:

  • Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Lightly grease with a bit of olive oil.
  • Cook the chicken for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).
  • Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.

 Mushroom Sauce Preparation:

  • In the same pan, melt butter and add olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 4-5 minutes until softened and lightly browned.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute.
  • Add the chicken broth and bring to a simmer for 2-3 minutes. This will help it to slightly reduce.
  • Lower the heat, add the heavy cream and Dijon mustard. Cook for another 2-3 minutes or until the sauce has thickened. Season with salt and pepper.

 Assemble the Dish:

  • Place the cooked chicken steaks on a serving plate.
    Pour the mushroom sauce plentifully over the chicken.
    Garnish with fresh parsley if you want.
  • Serve:
    Chicken steak with mash potatoes, steam vegetables or buttered rice for an all-round meal.

Tips

Tender Chicken:

Let the chicken marinate in buttermilk for one hour before seasoning for the extra tenderness.
Thicker Sauce: Add a spoon of cornstarch mixed with water if you prefer a thicker sauce.

Make Ahead:

The mushroom sauce can be prepared a day ahead and reheated gently before serving.
